Dermatology skin conditions – three different words with different meanings yet we know that they are all connected. In the field of dermatology, skin conditions are plenty and should never be taken for granted since these conditions may pose an even greater problem which may be difficult to cure. Are you aware that the skin is the largest organ of your body both in weight and surface area? Its weight is about 6 to 9 pounds while it covers an area of 2 square yards.

Your skin is the uttermost layer of your body and its major role is to protect your inner body from external irritants. Your skin regulates your body temperature and helps you sense the outside world. It is the one that sends message to the brain when it is hot, cold wet or dry outside or if there is a pose of an immediate danger. The skin also protects your body from bacteria and viruses. Nowadays skin problems have been properly diagnosed and treated due to extensive study done in dermatology. Skin conditions that irritate or clog your skin can cause symptoms like redness, itching, swelling and burning sensation. You might want to pay close attention to this as you might be experiencing skin allergies.

Some of the most common skin problems are the following:

  • Acne – this usually plagues the facial skin and the most common skin disease that causes pimples and usually come out during teen years. Among the said causes are hormonal imbalance and pregnancy may also play a role but there is no known exact cause for pimples.
  • Contact dermatitis – the most common type of skin rash, characterized by redness, swelling, itchiness and a burning sensation. This is often caused by an irritant like chemical or something in which you are allergic to.

Hives are very common and usually go away on their own. In rare cases though allergic reactions can cause swelling in your airways making it hard for you to breathe.
